Layered Voices
Layered Voices
May 1, 2018 – August 18, 2018
From archeological digs revealing the history of civilizations to contemplations on hidden meanings in novels, layers surround us in abstract and material ways. Featuring the work of 23 artists, Layered Voices showcased textiles that illustrated each artist’s interpretation of layers.
In 2016, the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) presented its members with a challenge to create a wholly new work exploring the concept of layering. Literal, metaphorical, realistic, abstract, digital, and even wearable art were all considered. Layered Voices was the resulting exhibition juried from more than 500 works submitted. The exhibition featured art quilts inspired by themes found in nature, politics, social interactions, personal experiences, and more.
